Concrete Calculator
Free Concrete Calculator
Planning a concrete driveway, shed slab, patio or another residential concreting project? Use Coastwide Concreting & Co’s free concrete calculator to estimate how much concrete you may need.
Simply enter your measurements into the calculator below to work out the approximate concrete volume in cubic metres (m³).
Our calculator covers concrete slabs, strip footings, circular columns and concrete steps, helping Sunshine Coast homeowners better understand their project requirements before requesting a professional quote.
Concrete Slab Calculator
Calculate the estimated concrete volume for driveways, patios, shed slabs and other rectangular concrete areas.
Strip Footing Calculator
Estimate the concrete volume required for rectangular strip footings.
Circular Column Calculator
Calculate the estimated concrete volume for circular columns and cylindrical footings.
Concrete Steps Calculator
Estimate the concrete volume required for a solid flight of uniform rectangular steps.
This calculator provides an approximate concrete volume only. Actual requirements depend on site conditions, excavation, ground levels and project specifications. The optional 10% allowance may not be appropriate for every project. Concrete thickness, reinforcement and structural requirements must be confirmed separately.
How to Calculate Concrete in Cubic Metres (m³)
Calculating how much concrete you need starts with understanding the measurements of your project.
For a standard rectangular concrete slab, the formula is:
Length (m) × Width (m) × Depth (m) = Concrete Volume (m³)
Because concrete thickness is often measured in millimetres, you’ll need to convert the depth into metres before calculating.
For example, 100 mm is equal to 0.1 metres.
How Much Extra Concrete Should You Allow?
When estimating concrete volume, it’s important to understand that the calculated quantity may not always match the amount required on site.
Several factors can affect the final volume, including:
– Uneven ground and excavation levels
-Variations in concrete thickness
– Thickened slab edges and additional footing sections
– Irregularly shaped areas
– Differences between planned and actual measurements
Our calculator includes an optional 10% allowance to help with preliminary estimating.
For example, if your calculated volume is 2.4 m³:
2.4 m³ + 10% = 2.64 m³
However, an additional 10% isn’t automatically required or sufficient for every project. The final quantity should be confirmed using the actual site measurements and project specifications.
